For our second project this year we had to write an essay on a question we chose, relate that question to three artists and then create a visual response for each one of those artists. My question was Why have contemporary artists and designers used screenprinting in their work? I focused on Mark Weaver, Ryan Brinkerhoff and DKNG Studios. Having recently read The Manual, i wanted to create a small hardback book to display my essay. I had a lot of fun making this book. I have really come to enjoy making things with my hands a lot more. The cover has screenprinted onto greyboard. The binding method i used in the end was a Japanese stab bind. These are some photos of a few pages of my book.
In september when i started my second year of A-levels, we were given a project in graphics to create something to do with Passions and Obsessions. We were allowed to do our own passions and obsessions. So i went in the direction of illustrating all things vintage. The final result was this. I am really happy with how this turned out and had a lot of fun with playing around with all the cameras.
I haven’t blogged in a while - been super busy with my exams. Here is a lino i did for a study in my graphics sketchbook. It was on a super old piece of lino so it was quite hard. I was simply doodling and this creepy old man came up and i thought the wrinkles would work perfectly with the texture of the lino. It came out okay but i used a spoon to print it so it is a little rough.
I have been watching a lot of Grand Designs lately and i thought i would have a go at designing my own house. Being an illustrator i started drawing a house. However i am not very good at maths so there are probably quite a few mistakes in these drawings. Nether the less, i love architecture and i loved drawing this house.
(Just realised I have not drawn a loo or a shower. Looks like it’s going to be a smelly future)
Me and my brother made a silk screen to print with today by using the steps above. We had a lot of fun with it and the end result was pretty good. This is my first ever screen-print and i am sure i will be making many more.
I have been listening to some 70’s-80’s stuff the past few days and Oliver’s Army popped into my headphones. I remembered What Elvis Costello looked like and thought he would be something fun to draw. I haven’t done a cartoon in a while so I thought I would do one. For some reason I apear to of given him Aqua-fresh hair.
An illustration dedicated to my pudding.
For my graphics exam we have to come up with a brief on anything we liked and then design to it. I thought it would be cool to design a logo for each aspect (NELSON, COUPLAND and ALICE) of IDEO’s concept project.
Here are a few visual responses i had to do for my chosen artists.
