Youth Lagoon recently played some songs for Sirius XMU; one of those was a cover of John Denver’s Goodbye Again. Sounds like the song was made to be covered by Youth Lagoon. Beautiful. I insist you listen to The Year of Hibernation if you haven’t heard it yet.
Since September i have been playing Youth Lagoon fairly non-stop. It still hasn’t ceased to be my favourite album of 2011. If you have not heard Trevor Powers’ album The Year of Hibernation i strongly recommend you do!
I have not done a film review before so this will probs be a little rubbs…
A Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a wheelman discovers that a contract has been put on him after a heist gone wrong.
This film to me, has to be one of the best i have seen for a while. There is something quite refreshing about this film that compares to other driving films such as Fast and Furious. For a driving film it only contains two solid car chases both beautifully shot and incredibly tense. To me though the best part of the film is the dialogue (or lack there of) between the Driver (Ryan Gosling) and Irene (Carey Mulligan). It is so dispersed - long pauses between each of them, with a calmness the uneases you to create this wonderful tension of “something bad is clearly about to happen.”
What really made the film was the soundtrack. The 80’s vibe with a futurist take, similar to the work of M83 - is just….cool. I have been listening to it on repeat for the past couple of days.

El Guincho is Pablo Díaz-Reixa, a native of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria living in Barcelona, Spain. Also a member of Coconot, Díaz-Reixa rose to prominence with his 2007 album, Alegranza. His musical style relies heavily on the use of sampling and incorporates elements ofafrobeat, dub, tropicália and rock.
I got into El Guincho a couple of weeks ago and i have been listening to them a lot, They are definitely a new favourite of mine, mostly because it is a really cool dance-ey album and i found it really easy to listen too.
P.S. There is a rather raunchy video for their most popular song called Bombay.

Blackbird Blackbird is an electro psych-pop band from San Francisco. 23-year old producer/multi-intrumentalist Mikey Sanders Maramag is a Filipino-American electronic musician who started Blackbird Blackbird after studying Literature and American History at UC Santa Cruz.
I have not been posting much art & design recently. I have a lot of stuff planned for the summer including a series of screen printed posters. For the time being here is a band i got into recently. I really dig their smoothness.

I recently got into Animal Collective. With some listens, last.fm recommended Panda Bear. Noah Lennox is Panda Bear and also founding member of Animal Collective.
The album Tom Boy has some great songs so you should really check out the whole album. But Surfer’s Hymn just sounds the best in my opinion. It also has a wicks video to it with surfin skeleton’s and a cool bit of hand drawn type at the beginning.

I heard Metronomy on the Adam and Joe Radio show about a month ago. Since then i have been hearing them everywhere. The on friday my friend Bart showed me some more of their stuff and now i have been listening to them non-stop.
This song The Bay, is one of my favourites on the album. But to be honest i love all of the songs. Check them out!

I have been into The Go! Team for a while now. They are on of those bands i never get sick of, but something i will only listen to occasionally. There latest album Rolling Blackouts has a number of great songs on it. I chose this one because in my opinion it has that cool, quirky Japanese game show theme which i just love.

Yazoo has to be one of my favourite 80’s synth band. It is made up of Vince Clarke from the classic band Erasure and Alison Moyet. This song is one of my favourites, it has that slow, simplistic feel which reminds me of some famous Trip Hop bands like Zero 7 and Frou Frou. Their most famous hits include ‘Only You’ and ‘Goodbye Seventies’ but this one succeeds to be my favourite of their ‘Only Yazoo’. I am really into synth pop and electronica, it’s something I tend to vert in and out of it. Recently I have been listening to El Guincho, Caribou and Toro Y Moi.

There is a lot of music I love out there and it is easy to choose a song to fit my mood. Today i have been listening to Darwin Deez because he has some really happy and upbeat songs on his album. There is also something quite quirky and catchy to all of them. This one is one of my favourites.

Beach House is a band I always forget I love until I hear this song. My mum actually got me into this band when she came asking about them. The rest of the album ‘Teen Dream’ is also rather great. If you like Grizzly Bear or Deerhunter you would want to check this band out.

If you follow me on twitter or my last.fm account you know i am a massive fan of Belle & Sebastian. They brought out there new album ‘Write About Love’ a few months ago and recently i had a proper listen to it. I love it. They have got a brilliant mix on the album of their sad slower songs and then there are some awesome upbeat and synthy songs. Here is one of my favourites, but to be honest i love the whole album.
